March at Porridge: A Shift Towards Spring

March has felt like a bit of a turning point.

The days are getting longer, there’s a little more energy in the air, and in the shop we’ve started to feel that gentle shift from winter into spring. It’s still a mix of weather outside, but inside Porridge things have been busy in the best way.

After a steady February, March has brought a lot of newness.

We’ve been adding plenty of new products across the shop and online, from pantry staples and snacks to eco home essentials and wellbeing favourites. It’s always nice seeing new things find their place on the shelves, especially when they quickly become part of people’s everyday routines.

Our card range has continued to grow too, with lots more designs from independent artists added this month. It’s been lovely to see how well these have been received, with people taking their time to choose something a little more thoughtful.

Mother’s Day was a real highlight. The shop was full of people picking out gifts, and Clare’s hand put together dried flower bouquets were especially popular. It was one of those weekends that really reminds us how much people value shopping locally for something a bit more personal.

In the café, we’ve introduced a few new cakes which have gone down very well, alongside the usual Voyager coffee and organic teas. It’s been nice to see people starting to linger a little longer again as the days brighten up.

Behind the scenes, there’s been a lot going on too. We’ve been getting ready for the upcoming spring and summer season in Brixham, making small changes and planning ahead so we’re ready for the busier months.

We’ve also welcomed Tom to the team this month. It’s been great having him on board and getting stuck in alongside the rest of us.

Elsewhere, we’ve started writing a regular monthly feature for the Brixham Beacon, which has been a nice way to share a little more about what we do and what we’re passionate about with the local community.

And with Easter just around the corner, we’ve begun bringing in a range of treats, including dairy free and vegan options alongside some classic favourites. These are already starting to go, so it’s well worth popping in for a look.

March has felt like a month of momentum. Not rushed, but building.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, shopped online, picked up a gift, stopped for a coffee or simply popped in for a chat. We really do appreciate it.
